Second-hand, second user and used computers are what you would expect in that they have had a previous owner. They are only a fraction of their cost that they were only a year or two when they were sold on the market. Used computers are a relatively good opportunity to get a very well specified PC at a low cost. Notice I didn’t say top spec computer. Realistically, you’re not going to find a top-quality computer with used prices. You can however get a very good spec machine at a realistic price.
Note to those who are buying their first computer: used Macintosh computers are a great choice for beginners.
Reputable online dealers use experienced and certified technicians to restore used Macintosh computers to perfect operating condition by thoroughly inspecting, repairing and/or cleaning. They will be guaranteed to work or your money back with at least a 30 days warranty. Often second-hand computers that are name brands come with a warranty of 3, 6 or as much as 12 months, so be sure to ask the salesperson.
A common misunderstanding by many people is that they think a used computer will take too much effort to maintain. That’s definitely not the case. You will usually find that many mechanical parts have been replaced with new or refurbished bits and that normally includes the keyboard and mouse. When examining costs over a long period, it’s often more lucrative to replace used computers instead of buying new PCs. Don’t forget this.
Prices on used computers are extremely tempting and as I said before, are widely available online. The reason why so many are available is that many businesses lease a computer over say a year or two before upgrading to the latest available. So these like new computers become available. It’s a great setting for someone watching his or her money.
Buying used Macintosh computers from a shop isn’t usually recommended, not only because is it difficult to find a reputable dealer, but also because a good warranty isn’t offered and the computer may not have been checked to find out if it works properly. In the same vein, I wouldn’t bother with personal ads, either - there’s no chance of a guarantee there. I have been encouraging you to use online dealers due to these reasons. They will offer you a warranty and can inspect, fix, and clean used computers.
What will you do if you will not be given a chance to have a guarantee. Oh yes, and check what you are buying. Read the small print and find out whether you are getting a monitor or not and whether you have Windows installed. Make sure that you check because sometimes that isn’t the case.
