CAD CAM Information and CAD CAM Software Packages Info at CNC Website
CAD CAM Information is now available in a single location on Ivan’s website that is about Computer Numerical Control. Information on CAD/CAM Software, what CAD CAM is, and how CAD CAM is apart of your Computer Numerical Control software needs. The newly added content and category is a part of a new section that focuses on Computer Numerical Control Software. In this section, the user will also find different category pages on Computer Aided Manufacturing Software, Computer Aided Design Software, Computer Numerical Control Software, and much more software information. The page that is wholly dedicated to CAD CAM can be found at the following web address: CAD CAM
In this CAD/CAM page, Ivan talks about these different software packages and the benefits of each software package. He takes some time to discuss that this CAD/CAM package is also a way for manufacturers to gain market share by keeping the person in their own software for both the CAD and CAM phase of the project.
JETCAM announces V16 of JETCAM Expert
JETCAM International s.a.r.l. today announced the forthcoming availability of the latest version V16 of its Expert CADCAM and nesting software for all CNC punching and profiling machines.
January 28, 2008 — The latest version V16, under the slogan of ‘Twice the power of V8’, includes a raft of new features aimed at providing enhanced functionality for interactive tasked and further automation for users looking for semi or completely unmanned solutions. JETCAM will also be increasing the number of end user releases in 2008, ensuring that customers can immediately take advantage of each new feature as soon as it is available.
JETCAM Expert V16’s sequencing routines have been optimised to further improve the cutting path which can considerably reduce the overall cutting time of complex nests. A new reporting engine has also been included to provide comprehensive and customisable reports. A report designer is included, where users can simply drag and drop the required fields or tables of information onto the page. Single component or complete nest images can also be added. Reports of any size or format can be generated, including labels for single label printers.
Further development specific to punching machines has also been announced. Automatic tooling placement logic has been further optimised, providing users of punching machines with the same level of automation as profiling machines. Tools are automatically placed on the component based on highly configurable parameters. This information is then carried through to all related nests – if the component is updated then this is automatically reflected on the nest. ‘Tool teach mode’ further enhances the automatic tooling facilities by allowing JETCAM to ‘learn’ a user’s preferred method of tooling a particular contour.
JETCAM’s free form high performance nesting module (FFHPN) for V16 has also undergone further development, with the latest release offering even greater efficiencies. With metal prices increasing even a 1% material saving can quickly mount up to a considerable amount. JETCAM is also offering prospective customers a free ‘nesting benchmark comparison’ whereby they will compare a user’s existing nests with one created through FFHPN.
Commented Mike Weber, Managing Director JETCAM International s.a.r.l.; “These features in Release V16, when combined allow a JETCAM Expert system to rapidly become self-sufficient. It intelligently and accurately applies logic so that the whole CAM process can become truly hands-off, especially when JETCAM’s Remote Control Processing (RCP) system is employed. With our knowledge of the complexities of today’s powerful CNC machines this frees the operator for other tasks, maximises machine runtime and reduces material waste. For any size of organisation this level of automation has to be their goal to remain competitive in today’s climate of cost reductions. Companies employing manufacturing efficiency methodologies such as ‘Six Sigma’ will benefit from a system that provides a data-driven approaches to problem solving with a focus on customer impact. Any business purchase has to be justified by return on investment, and JETCAM continues to deliver this in three key areas: material utilisation, machine cycle time and programming time.”
V16 will be available for download from the JETCAM.com web site in February 2008. Existing customers under maintenance will be able to download the software immediately at no cost. Customers out of maintenance need only to purchase a maintenance contract to gain access to the latest features – there is no additional upgrade price to pay.

X CAD/CAM Version Change: 13
New version promises to be one of the most important and innovative releases in VX history
Most Important and Innovative Release in VX History
With nearly a thousand customer and market driven enhancements, most of which provide dramatic productivity gains and new capabilities, Version 13 promises to be one of the most important, innovative releases in VX history.
Product designers will benefit from a new filleting engine that helps them get more "style" into products. Product designers will also realize increased productivity gains for adding digital images to products with the enhanced embossing tool that automatically smooths out irregular surfaces. A new capability for branding and packaging is where text can be made to follow a circle or spline curve where the text floats above the curve as the curve’s profile changes and optionally stretches or shrinks as the curve length changes. This allows manufacturers to quickly and easily add company and other information to complex shaped products and containers. Another performance enhancement for designers is the ability to model with real-time analysis thus giving instant feedback on aspects such as curvature and draft angles.
Other features to help product designers visualize new products are a new photo-realistic rendering engine that brings an "industrial design" level of rendering to VX. Likewise, textured objects, also new for Version 13, lets designers get real-time realistic views of products while they’re being designed.
Mechanical designers will benefit from motion simulation where animations can be created for studying moving parts in assemblies. Moreover, assembly interference can be visually checked with dynamic clipping offering up-close segmented and internal views of parts and assemblies.
Mechanical designers can now get section views on layouts with different hatching options that provide a much better view of assemblies without a lot of manual editing. Mold designers will now be able to design electrodes faster with the auto-electrode tool that speeds creation and machining of multiple electrodes. Automatic region recognition for picking connected sets of faces speeds electrode design by reducing the number of picks to just a few for complex electrodes with many surfaces.
Enhancements to VX’s QuickMill™ for mold machining include new SmoothFlow™ technology that ensures smooth finishes for reducing polishing time while maximizing machine tool efficiency and reducing machine wear and tear. Other CAM enhancements include Offset3D Feature Aware Machining where tool path motion is automatically adjusted to preserve fine sharp edged detail; Variable Z Level machining for containment of simple tool paths for better finishes with no wasted motions; and XML output to help streamline shopfloor communication. "VX Version 13 is an astounding release that provides tremendous productivity enhancements and new capabilities to product designers and mold makers, " says Bob Fischer, VX Vice President Sales and Marketing, "Version 13 is certainly one of the most important and innovative releases in our history."

Art CAD/CAM Launched
CAD/CAM software for the skilled artisian is believed to be the easiest to learn and the fastest to use engraving and routing software currently available
Delcam has released its ‘entry-level’ version of its ArtCAM family of artistic CAD/CAM software. Called ArtCAM Express, it is intended for skilled artisans, rather than engineers. Delcam said operating the software requires little knowledge of engineering or computing. Delcam believes it to be the easiest to learn and the fastest to use engraving and routing software currently available.
ArtCAM Express offers 2D drawing, and 2D and basic 3D machining functions.
Delcam told manufacturingtalk.com that ArtCAM Express provides an ideal introduction to computer-based manufacturing for companies in the signmaking, woodworking and engraving industries.
Designs can be imported in DXF, DWG, AI and EPS 2D formats, while the 3D formats supported include STL files from any CAD system, plus designs from Alias Wavefront, 3D Studio and other members of the ArtCAM family.
The software comes with a library of 3D ‘clip-art’ that new customers can use to create their first models.
All these examples can be scaled or combined to give initial designs ready for machining.
As the user increases his skills, any new designs that he creates can be added to the library.
For users that prefer to create their own designs, the software includes a range of drawing tools for producing geometric and free-form shapes, and also for editing and repairing imported 2D files.
The options for text creation support a wide range of fonts and also give complete control over spacing, kerning, and line and paragraph formatting.
* CNC machining – once the design has been finalised, the software offers a variety of strategies for CNC machining.
2D strategies supported include area clearance, profiling, engraving, vector-based machining and drilling, plus V-bit carving on all standard Windows fonts.
In addition, a 3D raster toolpath can be created within a vector boundary.
The software is supplied with a tooling database, which can be edited or added to by the user, plus drivers for many of the leading CNC engraving and routing machines.
